Get Off the Fence - The Devil Owns the Fence

Updated: Aug 1, 2025

Focus Scripture

“Whoever is not with Me is against Me, and whoever does not gather with Me scatters.” – Luke 11:23

There’s an old parable that goes like this: A man had to choose between God and Satan. He looked at both sides and decided he wasn’t ready to choose. So, he climbed up on the fence that separated the two. Time passed, and one day, Satan came looking for him.

“There you are!” Satan said with a grin. The man was startled. “Wait a second, I didn’t choose you. I’m on the fence.” To which Satan replied, “Oh, but I own the fence.”

Thoughts

We often hear people say, “I’m not against God, I’m just not ready to fully commit.” But neutrality in the kingdom of God does not exist. There is no middle ground. There is no spiritual Switzerland.

The Bible makes it abundantly clear. Luke 11:23 says, “Whoever is not with Me is against Me, and whoever does not gather with Me scatters.”

We may think sitting on the fence gives us time, space, or safety. But in reality, the fence is one of Satan’s most deceptive traps. It’s comfortable, noncommittal, and dangerously quiet. And it is designed to delay salvation long enough to destroy it.

Jesus speaks urgently about commitment and decision. In Revelation, He warns the church in Laodicea. He says in Revelation 3:16, “So, because you are lukewarm, neither hot nor cold, I am about to spit you out of my mouth.” God desires all of you, not a partial heart, not delayed obedience, and not spiritual procrastination.

Life Application

Choosing Christ isn’t about waiting for the perfect moment; it’s about trusting Him now. Remember this truth, if you're on the fence, you're not neutral—you're in enemy territory. Get off the fence. Choose Jesus.

“Now choose life, so that you and your children may live.” – Deuteronomy 30:19

Ask yourself today:

  • Am I fully surrendered to Christ, or am I still sitting on the fence?

  • Am I hesitating to obey God in certain areas of my life—my time, my priorities, my relationships, my faith?

  • Have I mistaken comfort for safety?

Closing Prayer

Lord Jesus, I no longer want to sit on the fence. I don’t want to live a life of indecision or lukewarm faith. I choose You today. Help me to fully commit—heart, soul, mind, and strength. Give me the courage to leave behind the fence of comfort and walk boldly in obedience. Amen.
